Wow, oh wow, so much going on at the Widows Walk.
The Queen is still having her plaster removed.
It is just so surreal to see all of this taking place.
She stands quietly by while she is stripped of her failing plaster.
I hope she realizes that this is for the best.
She also has to withstand the poking and prodding of the electricians and plumbers.
Getting all up inside of her!
The little bit of wiring that had been updated in the 80’s was run haphazardly wherever they could run it.
In the 2nd bedroom behind the master bedroom I found this very strange writing or painting on the floor.
It looks like maybe an old hopscotch pattern?
Don’t mind that cardboard running down the center
Someone thought that would be a great way to cover up the board
they removed to do some plumbing, sigh!
I see what looks like a number “4”
Its painted in a faint green
which looks like the paint that was the original color of the exterior
WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?
As I have mentioned before, I do believe this was some sort of boarding or family house for workers, etc.
Here are some photos of the Queen Stripped of her Plaster.
This one was by far the most shocking for me because I came home from work and my upstairs railing was MISSING!
Just a GAPING, dangerous hole!
But remember, a GREAT thing came of this!
I found out WHO BUILT THE HOUSE
When I saw the underside of the railing!
More Shocking Photos
This one below is the closet being re-framed properly in the Guest Room
I love this chimney, but I will be covering it up. It just wouldn’t make any sense to leave it exposed.
It is not centered to the room and it so narrow.
But I sure love looking at it right now.
This is the room that had major leaking and a very large hole above the bed.
When the plaster was removed, you can see black soot around the flue on the bricks.
It was never exposed, which amazes me that the house never burned down.
This next photo is one of my favorites.
BECAUSE SOMETHING EXCITING IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN THIS ROOM
It came out of necessity
And the crazy ideas I get in my head once I see something I want!
Because those of you who know me
Who truly know me
Know that I love to complicate my life
It is some sort of illness.
Anyway…
To the right of the doorway, the roof lines come together in very crazy angles.
Not much is really holding them up…
…Seriously
and…seriously SCARY!
2 beams are in the process of being installed in this photo.
If you recall there were very large cracks on this same area near the right of the door
This is the same room before plaster was removed.
I could easily put my fingers in the cracks on the edge.
My framers have all been astonished at how homes were put together way back then
Quite honestly as we are opening up the Queen, I stand there scratching my head
wondering why on earth they did some of the stuff they did.
Don’t get me wrong, I love those little quirks.
Like the strange angles in the upper, right corner of this wall.
The master bedroom has this exact same quirk where the gables come together
And I have NO intention of covering them up
Just to give you an idea of how quirky the roof lines are
This is a shot looking up into the tower area just outside of the master bedroom
While standing outside chatting with folks
Many people will SWEAR that the roof ridge on the tower is CROOKED
it is NOT!
Estefon is holding a level to the ridge, it is very LEVEL
CRAZY!
I want to put on record that I ENVY all of your that have homes with ship-lap on ALL of the interior walls!
NOT FAIR
I have NONE
unless you count the addition added sometime before 1905
where the outside ship-lap is now on the inside
I WANT SHIP-LAP
Okay!
Next post I will show you the cool thing happening with the Master bedroom.
And any other fun stuff that comes up by then.
