Now that the trailer is safely moved onto the backyard…
AKA “My Dirt Lot”
Keeping pets safe during construction is very important to me.
I love my little pups, they are like curious, affectionate toddlers.
Always getting into mischief, the last thing I need is them running away or getting injured.
I needed a safe place for my little pups to hang out.
The existing chain-link dog run in the photo above was built to house Pitbulls
My little munchkins can easily squeeze thru many areas of it.
At some point, the chain-link dog run will have to come down.
It is attached to the house. so it will be in the way when we work on the exterior.
Don’t get me wrong, the yard is secure enough…
Sort of…
Let’s not forget how utterly ROTTEN everything is!
The gates are in disrepair.
Also, I just wouldn’t feel comfortable while I am at work, etc. not knowing if someone let the “kids” out!
They can crawl under the construction fence if they get out to the front of the property.
Soon, there will be construction workers all over the place.
What if my pups are so cute and clever… (they are by the way)
…that they actually convince one of said workers to let them out to play?
Little Greta can be quite a charmer, lol.
She is so friendly, she will go to anyone.
I was a bit spoiled by my last Dog Kennel that was built at my house in the valley.
Isn’t it LOVELY?
It was super safe with a dog door that went directly into the house
And featured beautiful French doors that locked.
Wistful Sigh – I really miss my old backyard
The dogs didn’t really like it, because they would rather stay in the house
but it sure was pretty to look at.
It also doubled as a charming greenhouse and a bird aviary.
Enter Craigslist
AGAIN!
I found this great Dog Kennel by K9 Kennels that is very secure, has built in anti-dig bars, a HUGE 4′ x 4′ raised dog house
with a HEATER/FAN combo.
To buy this new would have been ridiculously EXPENSIVE
This Kennel actually had some BAD reviews…
Mostly because of damage during shipping, missing parts, etc.
Buying it used was an easy choice.
I could see what I was getting and the other owner already worked out the problems.
And it was a fraction of the price!
Here it is re-assembled in my yard.
Notice the anti-dig bars on the interior ground area. You can barely see them in the weeds
Not as pretty as my old Kennel
But…that HUGE raised dog house with a heater and fan is a plus!
My concern; however; is the 12″ Wide ramp…
It’s very narrow
And pretty steep
This ramp will prove to be a PROBLEM!
Only 1 way to find out!
Yes – They Hate The Ramp!
That look on Gracie’s face says it ALL!
NONE of them will use the dreaded RAMP!
And it’s a bit funny
But, they HATE the dirt ground.
Such little Prima Donas
They spent the weekend in this kennel
Not at night, just during the day, to try it out!
It gave me a chance to figure out what tweaks to make for them to like it
Did I mention They Got Fleas!
UGH!
I had to spray the entire yard with flea spray
Apparently all of the CATS running around and the property being vacant led to this infestation
I am NOT Pleased, but I am NOT surprised either.
I ordered Pet Stairs
INGENIOUS!
Look at Gracie NOW
She is the one in the photo above in the doorway of the doghouse with a toy in her mouth
I also added Pet Turf I picked up at Home Depot
And a special Pool Latch that I can lock to keep the little mutts safe when I am gone.
See how happy they are now?
They LOVE the stairs
Little by little the dirt lot is transforming into a prettier place.
I pray for patience!
